uLocate > Getting Started with uLocate
Getting Started on Your Motorola i830 or i730
uLocate Home Getting Started (online)
STEP 2: DOWNLOAD AND SET UP !uLOCATE ON YOUR MOTOROLA i830 OR i730
1. Download the application to your phone.
Power up your phone. After the phone has powered up:
- Press the Menu button.
- Scroll to --> Java Apps, press OK.
- Review "Download Apps" text, press NEXT.
- A Download Apps list is displayed. Scroll to --> Free/Demo, press OK.
- Scroll to --> !uLocate, press OK.
- Review program description notes, press GET IT (left Soft key)
- When the choice of "Main" or "Exit" appears, press key associated with "Exit"
Phone will display Java Apps menu
- Scroll to --> !uLocate, press OK. uLocate will be installed.
- Press softkey associated with DONE
Cursor will be on Java Apps again. (NOTE: If download apps starts again, press OK. At the Status Report, press EXIT)
If not at NEXTEL default screen, press Red Phone button twice.
- Press Menu key
- Scroll to --> Java Apps, press OK.
- Scroll to --> !uLocate, press OK.
- Select Grant Permission
- Scroll to --> Always, press OK.
uLocate should be listed on "Suspended Apps" screen. Press OK.
Press EXIT and go to the uLocate web site to complete the registration form.
2. Setup application on the phone.
In order for the phone to communicate its position to the uLocate server, you need to grant permission for this information to be sent. NOTE: this will only authorize the data to be sent to uLocate.
- With the phone powered on, press the Menu button. Scroll to and highlight GPS and press SELECT.
- Scroll to and highlight Privacy and press SELECT.
- Scroll to and hightlight By Permission and press SELECT.
- The GPS menu will be displayed, press EXIT.
- Now press the menu button.Scroll to and highlight Java Apps and press SELECT
- Scroll to and highlight !uLocate and press RUN.
- Confirm location requests can be sent to uLocate, press GRANT, then press ALWAYS.
- The display will indicate uLocate has been suspended. NOTE: It is actually running but in the background. Press RESUME to bring the app to the foreground.
- The app will now attempt to get a GPS fix (a GPS fix is the latitude and longitude that establish a location). To finish the application setup on the phone. Press MENU (the left softkey).
- Scroll to and highlight SET-UP and press SELECT.
- Enter the phone number of the cell phone and a unique 4 digit Private Identification number (PIN) and press SAVE (the right softkey).
The application is now running and the phone is capable of transmitting location information every two minutes assuming there is network coverage, you have the necessary data plan, and a GPS fix can be established.
At this time it is a good idea to confirm that you have a properly activated data plan (e.g. Total Connect for Nextel or Java Access Plan with Southern LINC)
Step 3: Test that your data plan has been activated.
NOTE: You can suspend the application to make or receive calls by pressing the red end call button twice. The screen will return to the Nextel default display. The application is still running. To return to the application, press the Menu button, scroll to and highlight Java Apps, press SELECT. The screen will display
!uLocate suspended, press RESUME.
