DALLAS, March 19, 2004
- Alcatel (NYSE: ALA), will demonstrate location based services at CTIA
2004 in Atlanta (March 22-24, booth 2015) with uLocate Communications
Inc., a leading developer of wireless location based communication
services. Both companies will show various services using 3G terminals
being integrated for commercial deployment with the Alcatel 8607 A-GPS
Positioning Server for GSM networks.
Recently completed trials with major
European service providers have successfully demonstrated the accuracy
and repeatability of Alcatel's A-GPS solution in a real-world
environment.
uLocate is focused on developing wireless
services that deliver dynamic and personalized location driven
information to mobile phone subscribers via a secure web connection or
directly to their phones. The initial release of the uLocate service
enables families and small businesses to quickly locate family members
and employees.
Leveraging on the Alcatel's A-GPS Positioning Server, the uLocate service allows subscribers to:
- Identify
the last-known locations of all members in a defined group using either
a secure web site or directly through their cell phones
- Receive
e-mail or Short Message Service (SMS) alerts notifying them when
members arrive or depart from locations they have specified (for
example, home, office, school, etc.)
- Review route histories
- View maps of routes and locations
- View speed and mileage metrics
"Alcatel's 8607 A-GPS Positioning Server

Phillips, vice-president of Sales and Business Development for uLocate.
"It clearly enables us to accelerate our efforts in establishing mobile
phones as multi-purpose data devices and extend our market reach."
